Soldiers appear before court martial

Twenty-six soldiers appeared before a court martial on Monday to answer charges of mutiny and disobedience, according to news reports. The men had been sent to Egypt for medical treatment. While there, they protested, claiming that their officers had embezzled their allowances. Army spokesman Colonel Felix Chukuwa said the soldiers, several of whom lost limbs as a result of combat wounds sustained in Liberia and Sierra Leone, were not entitled to allowances in Egypt because they were neither on training nor on courses. He said all their expenses had been paid.
