Given a severe drought and three consecutive crop failures, the current crisis has caused hundreds of deaths and massive displacement in Ethiopia.
Save the Children’s September report ranked Ethiopia as the world’s third
poorest country, with a per capita income of US $100 in a country of over
60 million. According to the UN, an estimated 10 million people,
including 5 million children were at risk of serious food shortages. The
report gave an overview of Save the Children’s response with regard to
relief, nutrition and health, education, nutrition survey and monitoring, water tankering and surveys, and veterinary care.
