Agreement signing date confirmed

The facilitation team in the Burundi negotiations has officially announced that the signing ceremony will go ahead as planned on 28 August, according to a statement issued by Judge Mark Bomani, a senior official of the facilitation team. However, delegates still remain divided along ethnic lines especially on the leadership of the transition government, which casts some doubt over the signing of the accord. “Our expectation is that they will sign the peace agreement on the date communicated by the facilitator, let’s not speculate. We shall cross that bridge when we reach there,” Bomani told IRIN.
