Guinea registered a budget deficit of 116 billion Guinean francs (US $71.2 million) in the first half of the year, according to the secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Planning, Losseni Nabe.
Speaking at a news briefing on 8 August, Nabe said Guinea’s income in January-June 2000 amounted to 301 billion GNF (US $185.2 million) while expenditure totalled 417.7 billion (US $257 million), Radio Guinee reported.
He said the economy -and the state’s incomes- had been hampered by subregional conflicts, an influx of refugees into Guinea and increased oil prices on the world market. In addition, a slowdown in international economic activity affected the traditional exports of bauxite and aluminium.
