The European Commission (EC) is to commit a further 12 million Euro (US $10,776,588) for the funding of emergency humanitarian assistance in Sierra Leone, the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO) said in a news release on Monday.
The funding, to be managed by ECHO, will target the internally displaced and resident populations affected by the conflict, as well as Sierra Leonean refugees in neighbouring Guinea and Liberia. It will also cover specific programmes for women and children affected by war and those who have been mutilated or wounded, ECHO said.
ECHO-funded partners include UNHCR, UNOCHA, and several international NGOs, the release said.
