Some 50,000 displaced in Mossendjo

The Mossendjo area of Niari region now hosted the country's largest remaining group of internally-displaced people (IDPs), in a zone still under the control of "non-state actors," humanitarian sources said. Over 50,000 IDPs are believed to be in need of assistance in Mossendjo. A UN security evaluation mission to the area on 23 March found that access would be possible for UN agencies once the ceasefire Follow-up Commission
completed the disarmament of non-state parties, according to a report from the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for the Congo. A number of international NGOs have also recently sent missions to assess the situation in Mossendjo, the report said. "Needs seem to be more in health and less in nutrition," it stated.
