Fighting in central highlands

The Angolan army on Wednesday said that it had taken the central town of Cunhinga, while humanitarian sources said the city of Kuito was again shelled on Tuesday by UNITA rebels. The battle for Cunhinga, a small town some 30 km north of Kuito, took place last week, news reports said. Meanwhile, 8 people were killed and 22 others seriously wounded in attacks by UNITA in the Kuito region between Monday and Wednesday, Angolan media reported.
