لا يزال أكثر من 170,000 شخص نازحين وبحاجة إلى المساعدة في ولاية راخين، غرب ميانمار بعد اندلاع جولتين من العنف الطائفي في عام 2012 بين البوذيين من عرقية الراخين ومجتمعات الروهينجا. ويشكل الروهينجا الغالبية العظمى من النازحين داخلياً - حوالي 138,000 شخص - بينما يبلغ عددهم من عرقية الراخين ما يقرب من 5,000 شخص. ويعيش 36,000 شخص آخرين في 113 قرية معزولة يتوفر فيها الحد الأدنى من الوصول إلى سبل العيش والخدمات الأساسية.

ووفقاً للإحصائيات الحكومية، لقي 176 شخصاً حتفهم (78 في يونيو و89 في أكتوبر) وأصيب 223 آخرين (87 في يونيو و136 في أكتوبر) خلال أعمال العنف التي أدت أيضاً إلى تدمير أو إلحاق الضرر بأكثر من 10,000 مبنى ومنزل.

وقد قامت شبكة الأنباء الإنسانية (إيرين) بزيارة مخيمين للنازحين داخلياً خارج سيتوي، عاصمة ولاية راخين، التي شهدت معظم أعمال العنف وهما مخيم باساري للنازحين الروهينجا ومخيم سيت يو كيا للنازحين من عرقية الراخين للإطلاع على أحوالهما. ويتساءل النازحون في كلا المخيمين إن كانت الحياة ستعود إلى طبيعتها يوماً.
