Over 30 UN staff killed in 2008

Some 34 UN personnel lost their lives in 2008, down from 42 in 2007, said a 12 January UN staff union press release.

UN staff union president Stephen Kisambira said although the number was down “2008 remained another harsh year for UN personnel around the world”.

Most deaths were in Sudan and Somalia.
