Sixty people reportedly killed in Bukavu

    NAIROBI

    Sixty people were killed in the first week of December in Bukavu region, according to the local human rights NGO Collectif d’actions pour le development des droits de l’homme (CADDHOM). The group stated on Friday that soldiers of the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA), stationed in local defence centres in the Walungu district, had perpetrated the attacks. Sixty people were killed and 15 women raped, including three young girls, it said. CADDHOM denounced ‘local defence centres’ in the Kivu region as instruments of popular repression, and called for their dismantlement.
