Starting from mid-April 2007, IRIN is to include Sri Lanka as part of its international humanitarian news and analysis service.
IRIN, a service of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), will highlight the efforts of the humanitarian community to deal with the needs of more than 300,000 displaced Sri Lankans who have been fleeing conflict over the last year, often to live in situations of stark deprivation and continued insecurity.
IRIN also plans to cover protection concerns, including the situation of children associated with armed forces and large-scale human rights issues. Coverage of communities struggling to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the devastating December 2004 tsunami will also be a priority.
IRIN e-mail subscribers wishing to add Sri Lanka to their profiles can do so after logging into their IRIN account online: http://www.irinnews.org/subscriberlogin.aspx. In case of any difficulties, or to request IRIN to update your profile on your behalf, please contact e-mail: [email protected].
Sri Lanka will be the tenth Asian country covered by IRIN.
The IRIN Sri Lanka web page will be at: http://www.irinnews.org/Asia-Country.aspx?Country=LK
