World Vision to build homes for returnees

World Vision Burundi is due to construct homes for returning Burundian refugees in the northeastern province of Muyinga under a funding agreement it signed with the International Habitat for Humanity (IHH), World Vision reported on Friday. The funding of US $95,800 will be used to build homes for the returnees in the commune of Giteranyi, 45 km from Muyinga town. World Vision said the agreement was signed during a visit to Burundi from 28 to 30 March by the IHH director for central and southern Africa, Matthew Mauray. During his visit, Mauray toured the World Vision project in Muyinga, where the organisation provided homes to 200 vulnerable families in 2003, with IHH funding. "There is a need to continue the collaboration with World Vision for the benefit of Burundi communities," Mauray was quoted as having said during his visit. "Discussions will continue with Habitat for Humanity to see the possibility of extending the lifespan of the funding for a third phase of the project," Maereg Tafere, the national director of World Vision Burundi, was quoted as saying.
