Army kills seven rebels

The Uganda people’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has in the past one week killed seven rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), the government-owned ‘New Vision’ newspaper said. It quoted UPDF’s 2nd division commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Tumusiime Nyakaitana as saying on Monday that the army in an operation on the western side of the Rwenzori mountain, also captured four sub-machine guns from the dead rebels, bringing the number of guns recovered in the last few days to six. “In the past one week, we have killed seven rebels, we have four captives with us and those killed were mainly Kabanda’s bodyguards,” he said. Kabanda, also known as Yusufu, is the ADF chief director, an equivalent of the “minister of defence”. He escaped and is suspected to be hiding in Butembo, eastern DRC, Nyakaitana said. “He [Kabanda] went as an individual so it may be difficult to monitor his movement but the hunt for him is on and those others on the run,” he said.
