Results of anti-polio campaign first phase announced

    NAIROBI

    The Expanded Programme of Immunisation (EPI) in the DRC has announced
    provisional results of the first phase of national anti-polio vaccination
    days this month. According to the EPI, which is a government agency, 274 out of the 321 health zones in DRC have so far sent results to their headquarters in Kinshasa.

    The results indicate that 9.76 million out of an estimated 11.6 million
    under five year-olds, or 84 percent of the target group, have been vaccinated.
    During the second phase of vaccination days, from August 9-13, vitamin A
    supplements as well as anti-polio vaccine will be administered.

    One of the Congo’s most popular performers, pop star Noel Ngiama Werrason, attended a meeting held to launch the second phase publicity campaign.UNICEF has said it will name Werrason as its ambassador for the campaign.
