Anti-stock theft army officer arrested

    NAIROBI

    The Ugandan army has arrested and suspended several senior officers on suspicion of various offences at diverse units countrywide, the government-owned ‘New Vision’ newspaper reported on Tuesday. Among those arrested was Lt-Col Felix Obwoya, who had been commanding the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Karamoja, northeastern Uganda, the report said. Obwoya, his intelligence officer, paymaster and administration officer are alleged to have embezzled funds meant for Karamojong vigilantes attached to the ASTU, according to military sources cited by the ‘New Vision’. Also arrested on suspicion of various offences were Lt-Col Livingstone Kalyesubula and Major Timothy Mutebile Sabiiti, the report added.
