Roberto Garreton, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), is currently visiting the DRC until 2 August. During this tour, Garreton is scheduled to meet with representatives of the DRC government and foreign diplomats in Kinshasa, as well as with NGOs, church organisations, and local authorities in both government and rebel-held territories. Visits to prisons and detention centres are also planned. Garreton’s visit will conclude with a press conference scheduled for 1 August at UN offices.
