Priest fight extradition

    NAIROBI

    A Rwandan priest, Emmanuel Rukundo, who was arrested in Geneva last week on genocide charges has appealed to a federal court in Switzerland to block his extradition to the Arusha-based International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR). BBC said that Rukundo, a former army chaplain, was working as a priest in a Geneva parish where he was arrested last week. He was due to be extradited to ICTR at the request of the UN war crimes prosecutor, Carla del Ponte. He is charged with compiling lists of Tutsis for killing and called for their extermination while he was working as an army preacher. He faces formal charges of genocide. complicity in genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide and crimes against humanity - but he denies all four charges, BBC said.
