Libya, Egypt called upon to speed up peace talks

    NAIROBI

    The Government of Sudan on Monday said it was ready for immediate talks on the Libyan-Egyptian peace initiative, and urged the mediators to make arrangements for holding negotiations as soon as possible, the official SUNA news agency reported. Presidential Peace Adviser Ghazi Salah al-Din al-Atabani told a briefing of foreign diplomatic and UN officials in the capital, Khartoum, that he was asking for Libya and Egypt to “set the scene and speed up the convening of negotiations”, at which “priority will be given to the ceasefire issue” provided for in the mediators’ nine-point memorandum.
