UPRONA condemns increased fighting

    NAIROBI

    The ruling UPRONA party, led by Information Minister Luc Rukingama, on Friday issued a statement expressing concern over the upsurge in fighting in Burundi. It called on the armed forces to “continue their actions to protect the people” and urged the people to cooperate with the security forces. The statement blamed the rebel FDD and FNL groups for killing more than 200 people since the beginning of the year, in addition to hostage taking and looting. The statement voiced concern that the international community had not “spoken out”.
