Army director, five others in the dock

    ABIDJAN

    Army director of training Col. Gabriel Mani and five co-defendants appeared before a magistrate’s court on Thursday charged with 19 counts of weapons violations, following a seven-hour police search on Mani’s Freetown home.

    Sierra Leone News Agency, SLENA, reported on Thursday that 39 people were originally arrested in the 9 June raid, in which where “several caches” or arms and ammunition were seized.
    The defendants have been denied bail. Mani is being held at Pademba Road Prison in Freetown but Justice Minister and Attorney General Solomon Berewa who, SLENA reported, is the prosecutor in this case, agreed that Mani be transferred to military custody.
