Uganda appoints new commander for Beni battalion

    NAIROBI

    Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at the weekend announced the appointment of Major David Muhoozi to take over from Lieutenant-Colonel Burundi Nyamunyawanisa as commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) 19th battalion, now in the Beni area. The independent ‘Monitor’ newspaper quoted army spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Phineas Katirima as confirming Muhoozi’s new appointment. “It is true. Major Muhoozi is the commanding officer of the 19th battalion,” he said. “These were the troops that were withdrawing, but are now camped in Beni until the situation normalises.”
