US $3.9 million for national health project

    ABIDJAN

    Donors have agreed to give Senegal an additional US $3.9 million to implement the remaining projects of the first phase of a national health programme due to end in 18 months, the state-owned Dakar daily, ‘Le Soleil’, reported on Thursday.

    The money for the first phase, launched in 1998, will be used to improve education, health and social security as well as reduce poverty.
    The sum will also be used to hire more medical staff, speed up administrative procedures, and launch the second phase of the programme that is to run from 2002-2007.

    The allocation of money was disclosed on Wednesday at the beginning of a three-day meeting between Senegalese authorities and representatives from 22 international organizations and donor countries involved in the programme.
