Storm smashes buildings in southern town

    ABIDJAN

    A rainstorm that hit Calabar, capital of southeastern Nigeria’s Cross River State, on Friday has caused damage estimated at some US $5 million to private and public property, the ‘Guardian’ reported on Monday. The governor’s office, presidential lodge and private homes were damaged; so were food crops as well as electric poles and cables, which plunged Calabar into darkness, the Lagos daily reported.
