Meeting on transition aborts

    NAIROBI

    A meeting called by the representative of the Burundi peace facilitator, Mark Bomani, failed to take place in Arusha on Thursday. The meeting was called for various parties and army officials to discuss the transitional leadership. All those invited, except the group of eight Tutsi parties, had indicated they would not attend the meeting. The Arusha-based Internews service said the eight parties, who form the larger group of the group of 10 (G10) held a closed-door meeting with Bomani. “We discussed what to do next after Burundi’s senior army officers did not show up. Without them, the meeting is meaningless,” it quoted Bomani as saying.
