Security restored in eastern DRC

    NAIROBI

    The Goma-based rebel Rassemblement congolais pour la democratie (RCD-Goma) on Wednesday said that security had been restored for local residents in most Uvira and Fizi districts in South Kivu province, rebel-controlled Bukavu radio said. These areas had become very insecure following recent clashes in Makabola, Sima and Mboko areas between RCD troops and those of the Burundian rebel Forces pour la defense de la democratie (FDD), the Rwandan Interahamwe militia and Mayi Mayi fighters, the radio quoted RCD military official, Major Sylvain Mbuki, as saying.
