Malnourished in Bumbuna

    ABIDJAN

    Each week, the World Food Programme says it registers between 20 and 30 malnourished women and children into its supplementary feeding programme in the northern provincial town of Bumbuna.

    The UN agency - in the front-line battle against global hunger - has already delivered half of its emergency food of 10 mt to the families of 645 malnourished children, OCHA said in its situation report of 28 October to 13 November.

    These beneficiaries are enrolled in a supplementary feeding programme.
    Another 1,100 are also due to get similar aid, despite the hindrance along roads to the town. Bumbuna is a government-held enclave within rebel territory and, because of this, has continued to attract large numbers of displaced from villagers.

    The town is the site of an unfinished hydroelectric dam held by government troops.
