Chiefs urge electoral calm

    ABIDJAN

    Paramount chiefs from Ghana’s 10 regions have appealed to politicians, the electoral commission, security agencies and voters to ensure that calms prevails up to and after the 7 December presidential elections, state-owned GBC reported on Wednesday.

    In a meeting with leaders of seven political parties, the 10 chiefs condemned pre-electoral violence between supporters of some political parties in which scores of people were injured recently.

    “At the moment Ghana has become an oasis of peace and stability in the midst of wars and confusion in Africa,” Nana Addo-Dankwa, the paramount chief for the Eastern Region, said. “We, therefore, have a reputation to maintain.”
