Dire health needs in western districts

Medecins sans frontieres (MSF) - France was the only agency trying to provide health care services to some 49 IDP camps in Bundibugyo, and was severely overstretched, OCHA reported. “The health situation in the district is still in dire need of more interventions” from UN agencies and NGOs, but insecurity remained a problem and was hampering humanitarian activities throughout western Uganda, the field mission reported. The Ugandan rebel Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) have been increasingly active in the west since late April and regularly target the civilian population and IDP camps in their operations. The need for improved coordination of aid agency activities in Bundibugyo and the neighbouring districts of Kasese and Kabarole, as well as a physical verification exercise to ascertain the true number of displaced people in these areas, was also emphasised.
