Buyoya seeks to reassure Burundians over peace deal

    NAIROBI

    President Pierre Buyoya has sought to reassure Burundians who are wary of a peace deal for the country. In his Labour Day speech on Monday, he said the peace process was “advancing normally” and stressed that it was only through peace that Burundians could solve the country’s economic and social problems. “The forthcoming peace accord should not cause anxiety to anyone, because everyone will benefit from it,” he said, according to the private Netpress news agency. He urged employers and employees to support the peace process and warned against those who were trying to derail it.
