Chissano names three women cabinet members

Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano on Monday named an enlarged cabinet with 22 ministers. Three of the ministers are women, there are 10 new faces, only six ministers retained their previous posts, two have been shifted to new ministries, while four junior ministers were promoted to full ministers. The three women ministers are Luisa Diogo, Virginia Matabele and Lidia Brito. Brito, the former deputy vice-chancellor of Eduardo Mondlane University, has been appointed minister for the newly-created Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology. Diogo, a former deputy minister, was appointed to Finance and Planning, while Matabele is the minister for Women and Social Action.
