Minister says ceasefire paramount

    NAIROBI

    Burundi’s Peace Process Minister Ambroise Niyonsaba stressed the temporary nature of the transitional institutions and the importance of a ceasefire. “We are discussing the installation of the president and the vice-president, but we should also ask ourselves when the transitional institutions will be set up,” Burundi radio quoted him as saying. “Will it be before or after a ceasefire?” Niyonsaba explained that the peace agreement was signed and prepared with the assumption there would be a ceasefire that would be enforced at the time of the signing. “We realise that this is not the case,” he said. The transition, he added, essentially concerned reconstruction, repatriation and resettlement.
