Nearly 3,000 women die each year from birth complications

An estimated 3,000 women die each year from birth complications, media reports said on Thursday. The minister of health, Lillian Patel was quoted as saying that for every one woman that died of child-bearing related complications, 15 other women ended up disabled or developed chronic illnesses. “A critical evaluation of the main causes of maternal deaths revealed that most women die because of heavy bleeding,” she said. The government said that it has launched a campaign to train more nurses and midwives to try and reduce maternal deaths.
