Carter asks to increase the number of electoral monitors

    Carter met the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday, to discuss increasing the number of authorised electoral monitors for next month’s legislative and presidential elections. “The Chairman of INEC has promised to look into the request of increasing the number of independent observers,” the Secretary of INEC told IRIN today. Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry in Stockholm announced yesterday that Sweden will be sending 10 observers to the elections, the Swedish consul in Abidjan told IRIN.
