Government ministers slam accord

    SUN CITY

    DRC government ministers have been vocal in their opposition to the Lusaka peace accord. Local press reports said Education Minister Kamara Rwakaikare dismissed the agreement as irrelevant “in the face of continued aggression by Rwanda and Uganda, and the failure of [the UN mission] MONUC to fulfil its obligations”. Diplomatic sources meanwhile said participants at a Security Council briefing on Friday noted that Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Yerodia Ndombasi had declared the accord “null and void”. The foreign minister was quoted as saying his government would launch a public information campaign to explain its position which was critical of MONUC.
