Puntland bans flights

The leader of the self-declared autonomous region of in Puntland in northeast Somalia, Abdullahi Yusuf, has set up a “crisis committee” to counter the effects of the new interim authority, the Somali newspaper, ‘Qaran’ reported on Tuesday. “The administration has imposed strict measures on flights, apart from humanitarian ones, which are now barred from using Bossaso (Puntland’s main commercial city) airport,” it said. “Flights are now diverted to Conoco airstrip, 30 km from Puntland’s administrative capital, Garowe.” It said the measures were aimed at Puntland residents returning from the conference in neighbouring Djibouti where the interim administration was set up.
