Earlier, Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Robert Mboma said that the Tanzanian People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) had beefed up their strength in Zanzibar and Pemba for control of internal security in case police forces are unable to manage during the October elections.
In a recent report by the Tanzanian newspaper ‘The Guardian’, Mboma said
“It is true the number of solders in Zanzibar and Pemba has been
increased. This is our constitutional role after a thorough investigation on maintenance of peace and order. We are on standby should the police fail to control the situation.” He insisted that the army would play its constitutional role and would not condone any acts of breaching of the peace and security, the report said.
