No UNITA allies in Zambia

    NAIROBI

    Zambian Foreign Minister Keli Walubita said on Monday Angola’s UNITA rebels would find no allies in Zambia in the wake of an intensified offensive by government troops. Walubita was quoted as saying that his country remained committed to a peaceful resolution to Angola’s 25-year civil war between the government and National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) rebels. “There have been suspicions that Zambia supports UNITA. These suspicions are baseless,” Walubita said. He also rejected claims that Zambia was a major conduit for UNITA diamonds seeking markets in Europe or elsewhere: “We are not involved, we’ve not been involved,” he said.
