The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will give $3.68 million to Tanzania to help improve governance and education.
The new funds would support good governance programmes within the national assembly, the government’s national anti-corruption strategic action plan and within Tanzania’s civil society, the US embassy said in a statement on Friday. The USAID representative in Tanzania, Pamela White, said Tanzania had been championing good governance and had been promoting "accountability, transparency and integrity in the fight against poverty."
In the semi-autonomous island of Zanzibar, USAID is implementing a US initiative to improve the quality of education, through the Zanzibar poverty reduction programme.
