Health authorities Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of Congo, said on Wednesday that 18 people had now died of Ebola, since the latest outbreak of the haemorrhagic fever on 31 October.
In its latest bulletin, the Ministry of Health said the deaths, from 36 cases, had occurred in the district of Mbomo, the Department of Cuvette-Ouest in northeastern Congo.
It said 15 of the deaths occurred in the locality of Mbomo, and the others in Mbanza, 15 km away. The current outbreak of the disease occurred when a family ate the meat of a dead wild boar found in the forest.
The World Health Organization reported on Tuesday that its Africa subregional epidemic response team for West Africa, staff from the WHO Country Office in Brazzaville and Medecins Sans Frontieres-Holland continued to support the Ministry of Health in Mbombo.
