The International Red Cross (ICRC) on Sunday reported that it has repatriated to Eritrea 172 people who were living in the area of the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. The Committee said the 172 people, of Eritrean origin, were repatriated at their own request. According to the statement, the group left Addis Ababa in a five-bus convoy escorted by police. The ICRC acted as an “independent intermediary” and liaised with the Ethiopian authorities after the Eritreans requested help, it said. The group crossed the border at the Mereb river crossing, where they were handed over to the ICRC in Eritrea.
