The Minister of Defence of the interim government, Abdullahi Boqor Muse, held talks with Egyptian army general, Mamduh Qutub, and requested assistance in rebuilding a national armed force. The talks took place at the Ramadan Hotel in Mogadishu on 21 December, the south Mogadishu-based ‘Ayaamaha’ daily newspaper said on 23 December. The Egyptian government declared itself supportive of the Djibouti-hosted elections and the new interim government in August, after facing criticism it was behind Mogadishu opposition faction leader, Hussein Mohamed Aideed.
