Municipal elections set for 15 December

    Benin's government has postponed municipal elections from 1 December to 15 December, it announced at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday. It said it decided to postpone the polls so as to ensure transparency. The organisation of the elections had been hindered by numerous factors, including low voter registration and insufficient registration material. Opposition parties expressed satisfaction at the postponement which, they said, would allow the state to correct discrepancies they had pointed out.
