US $6 million from Saudi Arabia for water, livestock

    NIAMEY
    The Saudi Arabian Development Fund on Wednesday granted Niger FCFA 4.5 billion (US $6 million) to help improve its water supply and vaccinate livestock, Niger's national radio reported. It said boreholes would be drilled in the regions of Dosso and Zinder in the east, and Tahoua and Agadez in the north. Niger's government has also promised to invest about US $76 million in the water and hydraulics, and farming sectors over the next three years. Radio Niger reported that only 44 percent of the population's water needs are satisfied.
