Cholera deaths reported in the southeast

    ABIDJAN

    At least 12 people have died from cholera in the last six weeks in several villages near the town of Nzerekore in southeastern Guinea, AFP reported a medical consultant as saying. The source said 151 cases of cholera had been registered - mostly children aged between three and 10 years - but the actual figure was probably higher as some victims had not been able to reach a health centre, AFP reported. The epidemic, caused by the use of contaminated water in traditional wells, seemed to be under control, although the situation in inaccesible villages remained uncertain, the source said.
