Health facilities some Kivu areas rehabilitated

The rehabilitation of health facilities in some areas of North and South Kivu and their provision with basic equipment has enabled many health centres to re-open and has improved the quality of care, SC UK said in its emergency report. In collaboration with a local drug management agency, ASRAMES, which supplies drugs to health structures in North Kivu, SC UK has organised training sessions for medical staff on the prescription and management of drugs. “SC UK aims to reinforce the medicine supply system in South Kivu and north Katanga, to ensure vaccination coverage in order to improve prevention services,” it said. In north Katanga the organisation was involved in activities of the permanent provincial committee to fight potential epidemic diseases by supporting the management of stocks of medicines, food and non-food items. The organisation has also succeeded in offering HIV/AIDS prevention services in South Kivu and north Katanga through the rehabilitation of health services. “Before SC UK’s intervention in Katanga, HIV tests were non-existent,” it noted.
