A UN Administrative Committee on Coordination/Sub-Committee on Nutrition (ACC/SCN) said that the nutritional situation in northern Burundi has been “rapidly deteriorating”. In a report on the nutrition situation or refugees and displaced populations, ACC/SCN noted that there has been heavy fighting in Burundi around Bujumbura. It said the situation in the DRC also remained “severe”. “As accessibility increases in eastern DRC populations in extremely poor conditions are being discovered and it is estimated that 2.5 million excess deaths have occurred since the outbreak of hostilities,” ACC/SCN said. It added that funding shortages have resulted in the continuation of ration cuts, particularly in Tanzania which will affect vulnerable groups.
