Powell urges Congo peace

    NAIROBI

    US Secretary of State Colin Powell at the weekend said it was time to work for peace and reconciliation in the DRC rather than assign blame for the millions of people who have died as a result of the conflict, Reuters reported. “The loss of two million lives is regrettable. But rather than point blame at particular countries right now, it’s important that we work hard to bring peace and have all armies withdrawn,” Reuters quoted Powell as saying in Kampala, Uganda after talks with President Yoweri Museveni. The DRC and its allies Angola, Namibia and Zimbabwe last week accused Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi of killing 2.5 million people in the latest conflict. The three countries have denied the allegations.
