World Bank team stresses need for peace

    NAIROBI

    President Isayas Aferwerki met with World Bank officials to discuss Eritrea’s economic growth and development, official Eritrean radio reported. The seven-man World Bank delegation stressed the importance of a “lasting peace [between Eritrea and Ethiopia] to ensure rapid development in the economic and social sectors”, the Voice of the Broad Masses of Eritrea said on Tuesday.

    Meanwhile, two Eritrean businessmen have launched a new airline, Eri-Air, the pro-Eritrean government Visafric news agency said on Tuesday. Eri-Air was the first privately owned airline in Eritrea, Visafric said. The airline - which plans to operate weekly charter flights between the Eritrean capital, Asmara and Milan, Italy - made its first trip on 19 May, carrying Eritreans from Italy.
