Acute malnutrition in Makeni

    ABIDJAN

    A recent nutritional evaluation carried out on children under five years in the northern town of Makeni and surrounding villages has revealed that one child in four is suffering from acute malnutrition, the French agency Action Contre la Faim (ACF) said in a news release on Thursday.

    Following an initial evaluation on 5-7 March of some 390 children, ACF opened an emergency therapeutic feeding centre in Makeni in early April.
    People in the rebel-held north of Sierra Leone have been deprived of humanitarian assistance for more than 10 months due to insecurity in the region.
