Annual deaths drop by 15 percent in Kenema

    ABIDJAN

    The number of deaths recorded in the Sierra Leonean district of Kenema dropped by 15.17 percent in 2000 to 29,608, the Sierra Leone News Agency reported on Tuesday, quoting official figures.

    According to the annual statistical report released by the ministry of health and sanitation, most of the deaths were from malaria, malnutrition, Lassa fever, measles and diarrhoea.

    The report showed that 4,167 live births and 692 stillbirths were recorded last year, but noted that because of the war situation in the country, accurate registration of births and deaths had not been possible.
